Lift Gates

Lift gates have been an important component of our truck body builds for the better part of 30 years We’re no stranger to the parallel arm style, column style, tuck-under, cantilever or rail-lift gates.

When selecting a lift gate, you’ll want to consider these key factors. If you are going to be using a tank cart, or dolly of any kind, you’ll want to make sure that the platform is sized to accommodate the length and width of the cart and propane tank. Tuck-under lift gates provide a slight tilt when the arms reach the ground in order to roll things on and off. Rail-lift gates provide a completely flat surface from the bed to the ground.

When determining the capacity of your lift gate, it’s not just about your cargo. You may have 1,000 pounds of cargo, but how much does your tank dolly weigh that may be on the lift gate? Add everything up and allow for additional weight when in doubt. Keep in mind that our motorized 420-lb. propane tank dolly weighs about 250 pounds. A 100-gallon tank (420-pound cylinder) when full, weights about 900 pounds, and you should add the weight of the operator as in most cases they would be riding on the gate along with the equipment. So, at minimum, you’ll need about a 1,500-pound lift capacity to accommodate the operator, tank, and tank dolly.
